The best part of going to Machu Picchu is getting there. We opted for the train ride to Machu Picchu city. The train experience is so bewitching and picturesque. You feel completely in Wonderlust. The train departed from Ollantaytambo and took us all the way to Aguas Calientes where we took a bus all the way up to Machu Picchu. From there we walked around the ancient ruins and imagined how life was like in this incan civilization prior to colonization from the Spanish. After we finished the excursion, we took the bus back down to Aguas Calientes where we shopped in the local artisanal booths and had delicious ceviche at Cafe Inkaterra.
On our way back to Cusco, I reflected on the experiences I had throughout the whole adventure. I am grateful to be able to travel with my friends to such a unique destination. Sharing this journey with them was unforgettable and as expected, it brought us closer in the best ways. Individually, I grew spiritually in the way that I connected with my ancestors and was able to get a glimpse of how they lived and created our current ancient history. I also thought about how intelligent humankind is. The Incas created technology to build Machu Picchu in the harshest and most challenging conditions. They notably used the sun to establish agricultural patterns and to predict weather and nature trends. I realized this destination is not a one-time trip, hopefully I get the opportunity to explore deeper into the Sacred Valley and learn more about the Andean traditions.
